Avalanche course in Hemsedal

In the event of an avalanche, it is the touring party that makes the difference. An avalanche course teaches you how to reduce the risk of being caught in an avalanche—and how to save lives if the worst happens.
Hemsedal is my local mountain area. For several decades, we have been delivering avalanche courses and training for mountain rescue teams, the police, and backcountry skiers. Through extensive experience in air ambulance operations and mountain rescue, Dan has developed deep expertise in avalanche rescue.
The course runs over two days in the mountains. We begin indoors by planning a ski tour and learning how to interpret current avalanche bulletins and weather forecasts. We then head outside to learn and practise in real mountain terrain.
By increasing your knowledge of route selection, the factors that influence avalanche risk, and how to interpret avalanche warnings, you will gain both greater safety and more enjoyment on your trips.
- Tour planning: Where can we find safe routes today?
- Avalanche risk assessment: What defines avalanche terrain, and how to use the Varsom app
- Route choice: Safe route selection for both the ascent and the descent
- Essential equipment: What you should carry in your backpack
- Companion rescue: How to locate and rescue your touring partners in an avalanche. Proper training in the use of avalanche safety equipment, including transceivers, probes, and shovels
- First aid: Immediate first aid in an avalanche situation
If you shuld happen to bee in an Avalanche situation it can bee lifesaving to bee well prepared. That is why we conduct a thorough review of, and training and rescue.
If possible, we recommend joining the course together with a friend.
